Sentinus opens up the new school year in Drumcree – Year 10 Posted:[17/01/08]

Thursday 6th Sept 2007 saw SENTINUS visit Drumcree College.  Barbara Hume led the afternoon workshop in which Year 10 were encouraged to embark on “Career Planning”.  The programme motivated pupils to begin to think about where they would like to go in the world of work and how they would get there when they leave Drumcree College.

Pupils found the workshop relevant and meaningful from the feedback collected.  Certificates were given to everyone to show they completed the day successfully.  These will be included in their “Progress File” as valuable evidence of their positive approach towards building their personal Career Plan.

Prizegiving 2007      Posted:[17/01/08]

Partnership is at the root of success at Drumcree College, principal Mr Noel Bullock told the audience at the recent prize day. He said the school endeavoured to encourage and promote partnership between staff and students based upon mutual respect and understanding.

Mr Bullock said the prize day was an opportunity to celebrate achievement and success, “the achievement and success that comes through examinations, that comes from commitment and dedication in the classroom, on the sports field and in our daily endeavours”.

Mr Bullock said that since he joined the school last December, he had been “blessed with a staff who are dedicated, committed and hardworking, who take pride in their work and who have the same passion as I have to succeed”.

He thanked the Board of Governors and everyone who works in the college for their contribution to the school’s success, including the senior management team and vice-principal Mrs Carmel McConville.  He also had a special thank-you for parents.

Guest speaker was past pupil Gemma McCourt, who studied for her degree in England and completed her Master’s in Cuba.  Gemma has travelled widely and currently does charity work for Trocaire.  She is employed by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

Work Experience          Posted:[17/01/08]

Oct 22nd – 26th 2007 saw the 12th year of our work experience scheme in Drumcree College.  All year 12 were on work experience in a rich assortment of different shops, factories, offices and schools, businesses and construction sites.  We find this a valuable insight into the world of work.

It gives our students

  • confidence and helps build their self esteem;
  • helps students make decisions about the future;

a helpful insight into the world of work, preparing them for leaving school.
